That's the male to the left that is
having the trouble swallowing.

The open mouth with the tongue
being pushed out is
"typical" behavior
for this Hummer.

I have 8 - 10 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds visiting the feeders and flowers through the day
with one of the males exhibiting an odd "hard swallowing" motion each time he visits the feeder.

This can be seen in the brief video below.

 


I'm assuming this is some type of infection of the tongue or throat and wondered if there is
anything that could be done, either for the bird or to prevent this from happening to others?
